What to know about Hurricane Season
Hurricane season is upon us and if you are prepared you may just get the best waves of your life. Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30th, with the peak period normally between Mid- August thru early October. The peak of the season is when we get the powerful, long period swells, with potential for high quality surf.
Safety first:
Surfers need to be mindful of the dangers, such as strong rip currents, powerful waves and rapidly changing conditions. If you are not sure of your ability, it is best to watch the surf for a while to see if you are ready.
Timing is Everything:
Follow Surfline or any reputable surf forecast app or local news station for storm updates. You want to find surf before the storm hits land or when the storm is moving off the coast.
Equipment Matters:
You generally will need your big wave board so you can paddle and get into waves easier and faster. Also check your leash strings and leash for any damage. Hurricane swells can easily break your leash and you will have a tough swim back to shore.
Follow us on instagram or call the shop for the most updated info on beach conditions when a storm approaches. Have fun but stay safe and don’t go out if you are unsure of your ability or the magnitude of the surf.
